LeVar Burton heads to the Palmetto Balloon Classic in Camden, South Carolina, where dozens of hot air balloons gather for launch. He first arrives by helicopter, then joins a balloon crew preparing a full-size balloon for flight. The field is crowded with color, fans, fuel tanks, fabric, ropes, and tension. It feels festive, but the process is precise.
The featured story, Hot Air Henry, follows a cat who desperately wants to fly. Henry sneaks into a balloon basket, accidentally fires the burner, and rises into the sky before anyone can stop him. Once airborne, he discovers something important.
Flying is thrilling.
Landing is harder.
Henry experiments with the burner cord and rip cord, drifts the wrong way, tangles with birds and geese, and nearly meets disaster near power lines before finally getting back down.
