What is it like to be a recreational runner living with celiac disease? In this two-part series, I’m sharing my personal experience of running, gluten exposure, and finding my way back to feeling like myself after an exposure.
In Part 1, I shared my experience heading out for my first run after a gluten exposure. In this video, it’s the following day — Day 7 or 8 — and I’m feeling considerably better. I also share a little more of my celiac story, including some of the things I’ve learned along the way.
If you have celiac disease, are gluten sensitive, or are navigating life after a new diagnosis, I hope this conversation offers a little encouragement.
We talk about:
-My experience with celiac disease and recreational running
-How I was feeling the day after my first run following a gluten exposure
-Some of the practical things I do to help keep myself safe
-The food options available today and how much easier navigating a gluten-free life can become
-A little encouragement for anyone who has recently been diagnosed
A new celiac diagnosis can feel overwhelming. There is a lot to learn, and it can take time to adjust. But I want anyone who is just starting this journey to know that it does get easier, and life can be so much better than it might feel right now.
I’m sharing my own experience, not medical advice. Everyone’s experience with celiac disease and recovery is different.
Are you a runner living with celiac disease, or do you have experience with gluten sensitivity? I’d love to hear your story and what you’ve learned along the way.
