If you've ordered a big tiller it can feel like a big problem trying to figure out the right lighting spec for it, so Lee filmed a walkaround of Bay District VFD's new tiller and their proper scene lighting configuration at MSFA Ocean City 2026. Here's a scene lighting spec guide and a few things to keep in mind when creating setting up your tiller: Bright scene lights on the brow of the cab Spot/flood lighting on the sides of the cab to clearly see addresses and the ground around the truck Lighting at the rear of the cab to illuminate the operator’s pedestal and work area at the base of the ladder Full flood scene lighting along both sides of the body, including the upper sides of the tiller cab for the rear tillerman Strong rear scene lighting on the back of the tiller cab (consider adding our MiniBrow with red DOT marker lights) Aerial ladder lighting: Spot light at the base for tracking + combo spot/flood at the tip (tilting light is a big plus) Ground lighting around the entire rig Ultra bright headlights (non-negotiable) Laser Cannons to quickly spot outrigger placement day or night Symmetrical optics so you can easily light up buildings overhead The list can go on and on, but this should get you started. Thank you to Bay District VFD for trusting FireTech for your scene lighting, and if any of y'all have questions about your lighting spec drop them in the comments below or visit firetechlights.com!
