104 Porters!!!??? - Kilimanjaro Crew

Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro is about so much more than reaching the summit. Behind our group of 23 climbers was an incredible team of guides and porters who made this entire journey possible. During our trek up Kilimanjaro, we finally had the opportunity to meet the amazing crew supporting us on the mountain. Leading our group was our head guide, Polite, along with four assistant guides who helped keep all 23 of us safe, on track, and moving toward our goal of reaching Uhuru Peak. But the true scale of the operation became clear when we met our 104 porters. These incredible men and women carried nearly everything required to support our expedition: tents, sleeping gear, extra clothing, food, cooking equipment, tables, chairs, the main mess tent, and even portable toilets for some members of our group. Camp after camp, they transported our equipment higher up Kilimanjaro, supporting us at elevations approaching 15,000 feet. This day became one of the most memorable experiences of our Kilimanjaro adventure. We were introduced to members of the crew, heard their names, thanked them for everything they were doing for us, and then experienced an incredible celebration filled with traditional singing and dancing beneath the shadow of Mount Kilimanjaro.
