Held on the narrow, unforgiving streets of Monte Carlo, the race saw Jack Brabham, Jim Clark, and Denny Hulme battling for supremacy—but everything changed on lap 82. Ferrari driver Lorenzo Bandini, running in second place, lost control at the harbor chicane. His car struck a guardrail, flipped, and exploded into flames. Rescue efforts were slow, and Bandini suffered critical burns. He tragically passed away three days later, on May 10th, at age 31. This race not only shocked the racing world but also led to major changes in F1 safety protocols.
