【Nier Automata #9】THE END

[2026-04-06 VOD] ━━━━━━━━━━ ⋆˚🐚⋆˚ ━━━━━━━━━━ Though we technically finished the game, we HAD to properly say goodbye to this wonderful franchise by doing the last two Emil's quests..... It's hard to put into words how I felt in that playthrough. The main story is both extremely beautiful in its portrayal of emotions and relationships, and the anguish of one's role in this world, whether you have one pre-assigned or none at all. 2B and 9S's relationship kind of encapsulate both. 2B is assigned a role she does not want to carry, she is almost fated to kill the person she grew attached to, an emotion she is not allowed and does not allow herself to feel. 9S in contrast is very aligned with his emotions, but is completely alone because those around him do not reciprocate them; they're not allowed to. 2B struggles with her role and how it clashes with her budding feelings, 9S with his lack of meaningful relationships because of their roles. There's also an interesting contrast between Androids and Machines reactions to their plan for what happens after the completion of their assigned tasks. The machine's was to never succeed and allow their "prey" to continue living, so they could always have something to hunt, while the androids, mainly 9S and 2B, imagined a future open to many possibilities. I absolutely loved every little pieces of Replicant that were in the games too, it made its story ever so deeper. The twin's descendant's fate was a very interesting addition for example. But obviously, the best part was Emil; his silly introduction could never have prepared me for the heartbreak of those last 2 quests, and I'm glad I kept them for last. Even though I said many time that those games don't feel like they have a proper ending, it remains very open, those two quests did put a beautiful yet tragic close to Replicant through Emil's last sacrifice. It felt like meeting an old friend and learning of his antiques, and then waving him a last goodbye. There is so much more to say about Automata, but I won't be rambling more than I already have.
