Mirages (Video, FARM 2025) Neil Rolnick (Independent) Abstract: The technical and programming aspects of Mirages start with using microphones which mount on the piano frame with magnets, giving me a clear and accurate aural representation of the piano while blocking extraneous sound. The mics run into my RME audio interface, which sends the amplified piano sounds to my laptop, but also sends them directly to the hall’s sound system with no latency. I use a SoftStep pedal board, a very flexible midi controller which I can program for each piece I play. I use 2 iPads: one running TouchOSC, which permits me to program a different midi control interface for each piece that I perform, and the other running forScore, a program which displays my score in an easily accessible and readable format, allowing me to mark up the score just as I would mark up a traditional paper score to facilitate easier performance. For software on my laptop I use Ableton Live, which contains samplers, synths and processors. Within the Ableton Live session I make use of Max4Live, multiple Native Instruments Kontakt samplers, and digital processors from Waves and SoundToys, and Eventide. Performance at the FARM 2025 Performance Evening, October 12, 2025, https://2025.splashcon.org/track/spla...
