In this episode of *Memory Lane**, I sit down with **Imam Shakeel of Lewisham Mosque* as we revisit the places that shaped his journey from a seven-year-old arriving in Britain from Kenya to becoming an Imam in the community he grew up in. Our first stop takes us back to **his old school**, where we speak about arriving in the UK, adapting to life in London and becoming immersed in the culture around him. Although Shakeel grew up Muslim, he didn't come from a particularly practising Islamic household. That began to change as he got older and crossed paths with Islamic mentors who took him under their wing and helped him develop a much deeper connection with his deen. We then head towards **North Peckham Estate and Rye Lane**, an important part of his late teenage years. While working around the North Peckham Estate, Shakeel was also becoming increasingly serious about practising his faith and beginning the journey that would eventually shape the direction of his life.
