If you like the look of this I have just put together a new online course. You can find out more there: https://www.lizchadertonstudio.co.uk/....
Painting watercolour on black is a lot of fun! The whole idea of black watercolour paper can be confusing - but fear not! I am going to show you how to paint a pretty floral on black watercolour paper, and you will learn all sorts in the process. Such as, it dries about 15% darker than when it is wet or you need to work from dark to light.
So watercolour is transparent, and you might be wondering how can transparent paint show up on black paper? Well, by selecting the more opaque colours - often the cheaper student grade paints - you can paint on a dark surface and the colours really pop. Or you can use white watercolour and float transparent colours in on top. It is a lot of fun once you stop telling yourself it's impossible!
In my last film I did a full review of this Clairefontaine paper • All you want to know about black watercolo... and ended up doing a quick flower painting. This is that painting slowed down if you would like to paint along.
So let me know. Black watercolour paper - good or bad?
From here, I would like to get some far larger sheets and do a 'proper' painting to see how it works. I also plan to use Daniel Smiths black watercolour ground and paint on a black canvas If you would like to see that please like and subscribe.
