The Dense Western Ghats Rainforest Corridor Heart of Kali Tiger Reserve: The rail line passes right through the lush forests of the Western Ghats (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) and borders the Kali Tiger Reserve (Dandeli-Anshi). Wildlife Crossings: Due to the dense forest canopy, trains travel through strict speed restrictions to protect wildlife like black panthers, elephants, and hornbills that inhabit the region. ⛰️ 2. Gateway to the Legendary Braganza Ghats The Strategic Junction: Londa Junction acts as the crucial railway crossroads where the line from Pune/Hubballi splits—one heading towards Bengaluru/Mysuru and the other descending down the famous Braganza Ghats toward Goa (Castle Rock ➔ Kulem / Dudhsagar Falls). 🚉 3. The Historic "Alnavar – Dandeli" Branch Line Timber & Paper Express: Alnavar Junction, located along this stretch between Londa and Dharwad, was historically famous for its narrow-gauge branch line into Dandeli, built primarily by the British to transport high-grade teak wood and forest timber. ⚡ 4. Massive Infrastructure Evolution: Doubling & Electrification Engineering Challenge: Converting this mountainous, single-line bottleneck into a fully doubled and electrified (25kV AC) high-speed route required carving new tunnels, building heavy RCC bridges, and cutting through steep rock faces without disturbing the fragile eco-system. 🌄 5. Dramatic Topography Shift From Jungle to Deccan Plateau: As your train travels from Londa toward Dharwad, you witness a striking visual transformation: the dense, humid rainforests and deep valleys around Londa gradually give way to the rolling hills and fertile red-soil plains of Dharwad.
