The Volunteers Fighting Buckeye Lake's Algae

Buckeye Lake water quality depends on a group most people never hear about: Buckeye Lake for Tomorrow, an all-volunteer nonprofit working to fight harmful algae blooms from the source. Here's who they are, how they work, and what you can do to help. This video covers why Buckeye Lake has struggled with blue-green algae, why the problem starts in the surrounding watershed rather than the lake itself, and how Buckeye Lake for Tomorrow works with local farmers, state agencies, and community partners. I also share simple steps every lakefront homeowner can take to protect the water. What is Buckeye Lake for Tomorrow? It's an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) nonprofit formed in 2008 to improve water quality in Buckeye Lake and its watershed. It wrote a Nutrient Reduction Plan accepted by the Ohio EPA, and it works with farmers, soil and water conservation districts, ODNR, the Ohio EPA, and the Buckeye Lake Region Corporation. 💧 LEARN MORE OR SUPPORT BUCKEYE LAKE FOR TOMORROW: https://www.buckeyelakefortomorrow.org/ 💬 QUESTIONS ABOUT LIVING ON BUCKEYE LAKE? https://lindsayhigginsrealtor.com/#co... 🏡 EXPLORE BUCKEYE LAKE HOMES: https://lindsayhigginsrealtor.com/ 🎥 WATCH: INSIDE THE BUCKEYE LAKE REGION CORPORATION:    • The Group Quietly Holding Buckeye Lake Tog...   BUCKEYE LAKE FOR TOMORROW AT A GLANCE 🗓️ Formed June 24, 2008 🤝 All-volunteer 501(c)(3) nonprofit 📋 Nutrient Reduction Plan accepted by the Ohio EPA 🌾 Partners with local farmers and soil and water conservation districts 🌿 Supports wetland restoration and dredging 🧪 Ongoing water quality testing WHAT YOU CAN DO 🌱 Use zero-phosphorus lawn fertilizer (the middle number on the bag is 0) 🍂 Keep grass clippings and leaves out of the lake and storm drains 🌾 Plant native buffers along your shoreline 🐾 Pick up pet waste and don't feed the geese CHAPTERS 0:00 The battle beneath Buckeye Lake 1:31 Why Buckeye Lake for Tomorrow formed 3:04 A lake reflects its watershed 4:08 A data-driven nutrient plan 4:30 Partnering with local farmers 6:05 Wetlands and dredging 7:08 What every homeowner can do 8:40 The bigger picture 9:22 Why it matters for your property Lindsay Higgins 🏡 Real Estate Professional 🏢 Howard Hanna Real Estate Services | The Hebron Collective Group 📞 740.407.5058 ✉️ LindsayHigginsRealtor@gmail.com 🌐 LindsayHigginsRealtor.com #RealEstate #BuckeyeLake #CentralOhio #WaterQuality #LakeLife
