Javelina are showing up in backyards, golf courses and neighborhoods across Arizona — from Tucson to Phoenix to Sedona. Most people assume they're wild pigs that wandered in from the desert. They're not pigs at all. And the reason they keep coming back has less to do with the desert… and more to do with us.
In this documentary, we follow the collared peccary — the "javelina" of the Sonoran Desert — and uncover what's really pulling these animals into Arizona's cities.
🐗 In this video:
• Why javelina are not pigs — and which animal family they actually belong to
• How a herd survives the desert by eating prickly pear cactus, spines and all
• Why they move in tight-knit herds and mark each other with scent
• The hidden "invitation" in our yards: food, water and landscaping
• Why feeding javelina is illegal in parts of Arizona — and why it matters for both people and the herd
• What to do if you meet a javelina (especially if you walk a dog)

📌 Javelina are a native species of the American Southwest. They are not invasive. The problem isn't the animal — it's what happens when desert wildlife learns to depend on human food.
