Here's an old video I found in which I unboxed three Uniden cordless phones, each more gross than the last! I do apologize for sounding tired in the video, as I recorded this fairly late at night (I also specifically tried to be quieter so as not to disturb anybody).
I'd been wanting a DECT2080 set for a long time and finally found a cheap but complete set with three handsets up for auction, so I got it. I have tested it since recording this video, and discovered a very weird issue where the handsets will periodically lose signal from the base no matter where they are or what they're doing. I had some phone calls get dropped because of that. I have noticed something similar on most of the early DECT 6.0 models from Uniden, such as the DECT1588, but not as frequently as it happens on this 2080 and never during a phone call.
After hearing that the ANA9710 is one of the nicest 900MHz DSS (digital spread spectrum) phones ever made, I decided to see if any were for sale and immediately found one for quite a good price, so even though it's the most horrifically gross supposedly-new-in-box phone I've ever seen, I think it was a good buy. I should be able to get it washed and cleaned up the same way I would a heavily-used phone.
When I found an especially cheap listing for an XCA4500 inside a RadioShack TAD-729 box, I decided to chance it just to see what the XCA4500 would be like, it being my oldest Uniden phone at the time I got it. Sadly, though, I don't think the handset has a chance after having a battery leak and corrode into its circuitry for who knows how many years. I will make an update video on it someday. But I do hope I can find a real TAD-729 at some point. It looks quite cool on the box.
