Instead of concentrating on trains running along the main line, this video takes a closer look at the operational side of the railway: locomotives and passenger rolling stock moving around the extensive railway area at București Basarab. București Basarab is located immediately next to București Nord and forms part of one of the largest railway complexes in the Romanian capital. The surrounding area also contains CFR Călători servicing and locomotive facilities, resulting in frequent movements of locomotives, coaches and complete train formations. During the afternoon, we observe various shunting movements as rolling stock is repositioned around the yard, prepared for further duties or moved between different parts of the railway complex. These low-speed movements offer a very different railway experience from conventional station trainspotting. Locomotives can be seen working independently, coupling to formations and moving passenger stock through a dense network of tracks. The result is a close look at everyday railway operations behind the passenger services seen at Bucharest’s major stations. Filmed: 15 April 2026 Location: București Basarab, Bucharest, Romania Time: Afternoon Theme: Railway shunting and yard operations If you enjoy Romanian trains, CFR locomotives, railway yards, shunting operations, passenger coaches and authentic behind-the-scenes railway activity, subscribe to RailwayRetro for more railway videos from Romania and across Europe.
