Sea Power User Mission: Fog Over the Kurils (1985)

June 1985. War has broken out in Europe, and NATO is holding the line in Germany. On the other side of the world, the Soviet Pacific Fleet keeps its most valuable ships out of the fight: ballistic missile submarines, each carrying enough warheads to destroy a dozen American cities, hidden in the Sea of Okhotsk. The Kuril Islands close off that sea like a fence, and Soviet fighters, ships and submarines guard every gap in it. As long as that "bastion" is safe, Moscow holds a nuclear trump card in reserve, and US Pacific forces have to sit and wait. The US Navy's answer is to go after it. If US attack submarines can get into the Sea of Okhotsk and start hunting those missile boats, Moscow is forced to pull aircraft and ships back to defend them, away from Europe. The way in is Frieza Strait, between Iturup and Urup. Overhead sits Burevestnik airbase, home to a MiG-23 regiment that would make short work of any submarine-hunting operation in the area. Your orders: take USS Nimitz and Battle Group BRAVO into the fog off the Kurils, find Burevestnik and destroy it, and open the gate. The Soviets know someone is coming, but not where. Backfire bombers on Kamchatka are waiting for a position report, a Slava-class cruiser group is searching the waters east of the islands, and Soviet submarines are patrolling the approaches. Somewhere among the fishing boats, a trawler that isn't what it seems is watching. Created by Cheguara Download mission here https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfile...
