France Frenzy continues 🇫🇷 For Part 2, I'm back in Saint-Nazaire to explore the incredible story of Operation Chariot — better known as the St Nazaire Raid. On 28 March 1942, HMS Campbeltown and a force of Royal Navy sailors and British Commandos launched a daring attack on the heavily defended port of Saint-Nazaire in occupied France. Their objective was the enormous Normandie Dock — the only dry dock on the Atlantic coast capable of accommodating the German battleship Tirpitz. Campbeltown was packed with explosives and deliberately rammed into the dock gates, while Commandos landed around the port to destroy key infrastructure. I walk around Saint-Nazaire to see where the raid actually happened, explore the huge wartime structures that remain today and tell the story of one of the most extraordinary British raids of the Second World War. It's one thing reading about Operation Chariot. It's another being able to stand where it happened more than 80 years later.
