South Florida's king tide disaster is not over. On October 27, 2026, the NOAA tide gauge on Virginia Key in Miami peaked at 2.54 feet above the normal high tide line — the third highest level since records began in 1994, just one hundredth of a foot below Hurricane Wilma, with no hurricane anywhere near Florida. Port Everglades and the Lake Worth Pier set new records. Seawater broke over seawalls onto Collins Avenue in Miami Beach, the Las Olas Bridge in Fort Lauderdale closed in both directions, people were rescued from flooded homes, and the Juno Beach Pier was closed after waves knocked loose its deck. Then on Sunday, November 1, flash flood warnings hit Miami-Dade and Palm Beach County, where the National Weather Service reported 9 to 12 inches of rain and water entering homes near Military Trail. As of Monday, November 2, a flood watch covers all of South Florida and coastal flood advisories run through Tuesday evening. The next king tides are expected November 6–9 and November 23–26. In this video: the record tide, Sunday's flash flooding, the Palm Beach coast (Juno Beach Pier, staircases, Jupiter Civic Center), Fort Lauderdale and Las Olas, Hollywood, Miami Beach, Miami Shores, the Florida Keys, why it happened and what comes next.
