30 YEARS AGO TODAY, TUPAC SHAKUR WAS SHOT. To mark the 30th anniversary of that tragic night in Las Vegas, we're continuing our *Tupac Chronicles* with one of 2Pac's most powerful and thought-provoking songs: 🎵 *“Only God Can Judge Me”* In Part 3 of our Tupac journey, Rick and Robert continue teaching me about Tupac Shakur, his life, his music, and the experiences that shaped him into one of the most influential and complicated figures in hip-hop history. Before pressing play, we dive into the infamous New York studio shooting, the context surrounding *All Eyez on Me*, production credits, and the absolutely insane amount of music Tupac was capable of creating. We also discuss how Tupac could seemingly write endlessly while maintaining such a powerful lyrical voice, and how his time at the Baltimore School for the Arts exposed him to a completely different world from the poverty and struggles he experienced growing up. That contrast — and having to grow up incredibly fast — helped shape the artist he became. Then, around 13 minutes in, we press play on *“Only God Can Judge Me.”* We break down the first verse and hook, the synths and production, Tupac's delivery, and some of our favorite lines — including *“I'm a blind man doing time.”* We talk about why Tupac's writing feels so dense without actually being overcrowded. Every word feels intentional. Every phrase has weight. He could make eight words sound like 26 simply through his delivery, emphasis, and flow. We also explore the incredible duality in Tupac's music: the conscious thinker and the street survivor existing in the same person. He could tell us what the world should be while simultaneously explaining what the world *actually was*. And that leads to one of our biggest discussions of the episode: *What does “Only God Can Judge Me” actually mean?* Is Tupac saying he's above judgment? Or is he saying that he did what he had to do to survive — and that the people who weren't living his life have no right to judge the choices he was forced to make? That interpretation completely changed the way we heard the song. We also discuss Tupac's connection to the Black Panther movement through his family, the influence of political speech and activism on his writing, and how he seemed determined to make his listeners FEEL something. Then we revisit the second verse, his hospital stay following the New York shooting, his incarceration and release, and some of the incredible imagery in the lyrics — including the IV line, *“strangled and entangled in my bedsheets,”* and that unforgettable flatline in the production. At around 32 minutes, we let the song play out and hear Forte's verse before discussing the production switch-up, the tension release at the end of the song, and why Tupac's message often felt more focused than those of the artists around him. We also talk about Tupac's incredible willingness to work with other artists, give people opportunities, and let them be themselves rather than forcing everyone to sound like him. Finally, we connect everything back to Afeni Shakur's values, Tupac's commitment to community, his album history and evolving reputation, and the impossible question: *WHAT IF TUPAC HAD LIVED?* 30 years after the shooting, we're still listening to Tupac, still debating his lyrics, still discovering new meaning in his music, and still asking what his legacy might have become. This is *Tupac Chronicles — Part 3.* 🔥 *Next Sunday:* We'll mark 30 years since Tupac's death with a special live premiere of *“Thugz Mansion.”* 🌙 *Wednesday:* The Journey to the Eras Tour continues with Taylor Swift's *“Midnight Rain.”* 🖤 *Inner Haze Patreon members:* Three to four uncut reaction songs are dropping throughout Monday and Tuesday as part of our brand-new Inner Haze tier. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 🔥 *SUPPORT HAZED REACTIONS* 💜 Patreon:   / hazedreactions   ▶️ YouTube:    / @hazedreactions   💬 Discord:   / discord   📸 Instagram:   / hazedreactions   🎵 TikTok:   / hazedreactions   🎧 Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/7qL2QhG... ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 💜 *OUTER HAZE — $2.99/month* Three exclusive Patreon episodes every month + additional exclusive content. 🖤 *INNER HAZE* Get our raw, uncut reactions every week, broken into individual songs and released weeks ahead of the public episodes.
