The journey to Sanctuary begins!
In this playthrough, I am a rogue going through the entire campaign in hard mode. I will also try to complete all the side quests along the way. The main aim is to understand the whole story of Sanctuary and find a way to defeat the Daughter of Hatred. Just to inform you, this is a Spoilers' Alert! Read the description while watching the playthrough.
-------------
I find myself in the cold of the Fractured Peaks (2:20), my horse runs away and I am left to fend for myself and find shelter. I find a small town called Nevesk (8:33) and Vani, seemingly the matron of the town, tells me that evil has been brewing up in a ruins up north. In fact a man went to the ruins just north of the town and came back mad. The town's people have restrained him and put him in a hut so that he does not hurt himself or the rest of the people.
Vani pleads for my help to clear the ruins (9:54) and rid them of the evil. I gladly help, though why the chivalry, I am not sure. I need to make sure that I am well equipped.
As a first dungeon, the Icehowl Ruins (12:58) is not difficult. It swarms with skeletons and the Fallen demons. As I am still finding my footing in this world, I think that archery may do better for me. After all, I have limited armor and I rely a lot on speed and dexterity to get out of trouble. This dungeon is a good time to test my bow and my skills, and to see if I am suited for that.
The chief demon in this ruins is X'Fal, The Scarred Baron (21:10), a large, beefily armored, mace wielding demon that governs the place. Being a melee fighter, he often sticks close to me, too close in fact! I have trouble holding him down in place for me to have a decent distance to shoot him down. Furthermore, he periodically summons his minions to his aid, making my single shots a little too few to gun down all my enemies in a short time. I finally defeat him (22:23) and complete the quest.
I return to the tavern in Nevesk (23:11) and is given a hero's welcome, though the townspeople cannot offer me any coin. I seem to enjoy myself in the revelry of food, music and dance, but I find my head really irresistably heavy... I have been drugged! Why!
They bring me to a nearby shed (26:00) and inside lie parts of people they have torn up before. Oswen performs some ritual on me, feeding me blood petals and I start getting visions of a horned demon. As I hallucinate, Oswen prepares his knives to cut me open, only to be saved by the mysterious madman they have restrained before. I managed to get up to me feet and wipe the town clean.
I find out that the madman is Ioseph, a monk from the Order of Light (29:24). We entered the nearby chapel in search of more answers to corruption brought to the town. Through my visions (31:46), I am able to see the past and Lilith's, the Mother of Sanctuary, exploits on the Nevesk town. I go into a trance and collapse, and Ioseph pulls me out. He tells me to find the hermit nearby and go to the town of Kyovashad to seek the Cathedral's help.
So here I go again, my sin being to just listen and go do. I find the hermit's Windsept Cabin (43:13) and start to probe inside. As I rifle through his findings, the hermit returns and offers me to stay the night with him as we talk through supper.
The man is Lorath and he tells me the vision I have seen is because of the petals of blood that I ingested, and I now have a connection with Lilith. I want to use this new found power to try to stop her and Lorath is willing to help in this quest.
The last bit of this episode's journey is to find Kyovashad and seek help. More Fallen demons are met along the way as the corruption thickens. I reach Kyovashad (57:11) and I am stopped by the guard, telling me that I need to cleanse myself. Lorath gets to enter because he is such a badass, but as for me, a newbie, I have to put aside my desires. I write Greed on a tablet and burn it, but I do not think that it did me any difference. Anyway, I get to the city's Waypoint to keep my progress saved.
