Hosts Tianran He and Hannah Wilson head to Shaoguan in Guangdong Province, where red Danxia cliffs meet ancient tea. Among rock formations shaped like elephants and teapots, they hike into tea country and taste sun-dried White Fur Silver Needle tea onboard a bamboo raft, drifting across a serene lake. After sandwiches and fries on a miniature train, they kick back in a forest park, trying their hand at fishing, horseback riding, and barbecuing, before pairing white tea with grilled fruit. In a Hakka restaurant, they tuck into rustic tofu stuffed with minced pork before exploring one of Guangdong’s largest traditional Hakka walled villages. A rice noodle master gives them a crash course in steaming, sun-drying, and cutting vermicelli noodles, before serving them with a poached egg with a fun backstory. High in the hills, they compare Hakka stir-fried green tea with regular green tea, then end at Nanhua Temple with Zen tea, meditation, vegetarian cuisine, and a monk’s reflections on tea and mindfulness.
