I Watched Star Trek VI And It's The Best Send-Off Any Series Has Ever Gotten!

Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, directed by Nicholas Meyer and released in 1991 as the final film of the original cast era, remains the best political science fiction film ever made — taking the real-time collapse of the Soviet Union and translating it into a story where Kirk, who watched his son murdered by a Klingon and has spent his career fighting them, is asked to escort the Klingon chancellor to peace talks he doesn't believe in. The film doesn't soften Kirk's hatred or ask him to pretend it away — it asks him to be better than it anyway, because the alternative is a war that kills everyone. Christopher Plummer's Chang is one of the finest villains in franchise history. Nicholas Meyer, who also directed The Wrath of Khan, delivers his second definitive Trek film with a political thriller structure, a mystery plot that holds up on rewatch, and a final scene that sends the original crew off exactly as they deserved.
