The track is played in: Open D Tuning – D A D F# A D and starts with a great picking pattern built around changing bass notes, creating a really rich sound from a simple idea. There’s also a cool rhythm guitar section in the interlude, before the lick appears over the top. After a bit of detective work, I discovered it’s played using a capo, which made much more sense of what I was hearing. In this video, I break it down live on guitar and figure out all the sections. We look at: • The Open D tuning • The main picking pattern • Changing bass notes within the progression • The interlude rhythm guitar part • The capo-based lead lick • The overall arrangement and feel of the song This ended up being such a fun song to learn and packed with clever guitar ideas from start to finish.
