Основной доклад: Обещания и опасности демократии

Democracy remains one of humanity’s most ambitious experiments; it is built on ideals of representation, liberty and equality, yet constantly being challenged by divisiveness, distrust and changing notions of power. In conversation with Sree Sreenivasan, celebrated author and politician Shashi Tharoor reflects on the evolving journeys of India and America, two of the world’s largest democracies, exploring the institutions, identities and ideals that sustain them. Together they reflect on the hopes democracies inherit, the challenges they confront, and the choices that will shape its future. Presented by Parul and Himanshu Shah Dr. Shashi Tharoor is an author, politician, and former international diplomat, currently serving his fourth term as Member of Parliament for Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. A member of the Indian National Congress, he has served as Minister of State for External Affairs and Human Resource Development, and currently chairs the Parliamentary Standing Committee on External Affairs. He spent nearly three decades at the United Nations, rising to Under-Secretary-General and finishing second in the 2006 UN Secretary-General race. An award-winning author of twenty eight books, he has received major national and international honours, including the Sahitya Akademi Award, France’s Legion d’Honneur, and Spain’s Carlos III award.
