To Live Is To Die - Metallica | Full Cover (Ride the Lightning Tone)

This is my full cover of Metallica’s “To Live Is To Die” recreated with the tone of the Ride the Lightning era. All guitar tracks were recorded pluging the guitar stright to my M-Audio M-Track Duo audio interface, running into Cakewalk Sonar. The amp signal was then processed through Ignite NadIR. Additional EQ was applied using ReaEQ with a dual-EQ chain to replicate the Ride the Lightning guitar tone. The drum track was programmed entirely by hand in Cakewalk Sonar’s piano roll, every single hit was placed manually by ear following the original song. Steven Slate Drums 5 (SSD5) was used as the drum sampler. Each drum element (kick, snare, hi-hats, toms, crashes and room mics) was exported as a separate audio track and mixed individually. To recreate the iconic Ride the Lightning drum sound, a large room reverb with a long decay was applied to the snare, replicating the warehouse recording technique used by Flemming Rasmussen.
