Frankie Laine And Jo Stafford - Hambone (BSN Stereo Mix)

“Hambone” was originally released in February, 1952 by Red Saunders And His Orchestra on the Okeh label, aimed at the R&B market. Saunders pieced together a number of children’s songs like “Mockingbird” and had a group of kids (The Hambone Kids, including a young Dee Clark) on his record. It didn’t score high enough on the R&B sales to merit a chart position, but it did scrape the bottom of the pop chart. Several other artists put out “cover versions” for the pop market. The most successful was by Frankie Laine and Jo Stafford. Released in late February, 1952, it reached #6 on the Billboard pop chart. It was essentially a carbon copy of the Saunders original. It made top-10 in Boston, Chicago, the Detroit area, Des Moines, Atlanta, New Orleans, Denver and a number of other cities.
