After a tough first couple of sessions on the river, we were very much hoping for a change of fortune as we arrived for our third attempt of the winter. En-route, it became apparent that the weather forecast hadn’t exactly been as accurate as we had hoped. Several hours of moderate rain brought with it the chance of a rising river; a kiss of death to our Grayling prospects. As we approach the river, it’s clear that it’s running fairly high, however clarity is good, and it is very much fishable. With a careful eye on the weather forecasts and river conditions, we head for a favoured run, that has produced big fish for us in the past. Before long we are into some fish, and after a couple of hours a connection is made to what feels like a very special fish. What could possibly go wrong?
