Archaen-Proterozoic greenstone belts form an essential resource base for gold, nickel-copper and lithium-caesium-tantalum deposits. Classic examples of such belts can be found in the Yilgarn Craton (W Australia), Birimian (W Africa) and Abitibi (Quebec-Ontario, Canada). In this video, I discuss the principal controls on mineralisation emplacement as well as exploration techniques using the Central Lapland Greenstone Belt (Finland) as an example. Judging from the to date discovered economic resources, the CLGB is relatively underexplored and therefore warrants a closer investigation.
