If you've ever wanted to sit with the record instead of just the voice, this is where you start. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ In the summer of 1885, a lone Texas Ranger named Ozias Kincannon rode into the small cinnabar settlement of Terlingua, deep in the Big Bend country of West Texas. He had been sent to investigate why word had stopped coming out of the valley. What he found there was not a massacre. It was not a raid. It was something quieter, and something worse. The doors were open. Meals were still on the tables. A bucket was sitting on the rim of the well, still full of cold water. Six candles were burning in the empty chapel. And down in the north passage of the mine, someone had built a wall out of the belongings of everyone who had lived there — shoes, rosaries, folded shirts, a wedding ring, and a single tintype photograph of a man nobody could name. Kincannon rode out of Terlingua before dark. He never spoke of what he had seen. He sealed his report in an oilcloth packet and handed it to his captain, and for the rest of his life he would not sleep in a room where the door had been opened by anyone but himself. This is the story of what he wrote in that packet. And what happened, seventy years later, to the young park ranger who walked into a ruin south of the old diggings and heard a single breath drawn in the dark. 🕯️ Sit with it slow. Turn the lights low. And check your door before bed. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ ⚠️ A NOTE ON CONTENT: This story is a work of atmospheric historical fiction inspired by frontier folklore, sealed Texas Ranger case notes, and accounts shared by listeners of West Texas and Big Bend country. The settlement of Terlingua is a real place, but the events depicted, the characters named, and the details recounted are fictional. Any resemblance to real persons living or deceased is coincidental. Intended for mature audiences who enjoy slow, psychological, atmospheric horror. No graphic content. No jump scares. Just the quiet kind that stays with you.
