Soil salinization is a worldwide problem affecting agricultural soils. This problem will be exacerbated in future considering the projected climate changes under the business as usual scenario. Hence it is important to raise public awareness and educate the general public about the adverse impacts of soil salinization on soil degradation, economic welfare, human and environmental health, food security, desertification and many more. This easy to understand and do it yourself experiment was designed to illustrate how compost application could influence plant growth in saline soil. This experiment has been designed so that it can also be done at home without the need of expensive laboratory equipment and analyses.
