Rural India is central to India’s development journey, and the strength of its villages will be an important determinant of the vision of Viksit Bharat @2047. With this objective, the Viksit Bharat–Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin), or VB–G RAM G Act, introduced a new framework for rural employment and development. The Act, which came into force across the country on 1 July 2026, enhances the statutory employment guarantee from 100 to 125 days per financial year for eligible rural households. At the same time, it seeks to connect employment with the creation of durable rural assets, water security, core rural infrastructure, livelihood and measures to address extreme weather events. The transition from MGNREGA to VB–G RAM G also brings renewed focus on decentralised planning, the role of Gram Panchayats, technology-enabled implementation and greater accountability.
