La Fosse aux Lions 2026 - My Sidesword Fights

Blast from the past, I finally finished editing my first sidesword competition run. I rarely do sidesword, but when I do I have MSS Ravenna M-345/346 Manuscript as a source (nicknamed "Anonimo Bolognese") and I do love hitting the hands which worked well in the pools, but I am using a Malleus Signorelli with only finger rings so I do have to protect my hands myself. I feel most of my matches were carried by athleticism more than actual sidesword skills, which showed in my last elimination match against a taller person (I need to protect that head !). Mentally I felt much more tense during the elimination matches and my fencing did get affected. The third place match was less enjoyable in part to the non enforcement of the rule regarding grabbing moving blades (it was better enforced during my pools). It happened frequently from my opponent. However, all in all this match was an interesting fencing puzzle to solve and interesting insights to be gained from it !
