Welcome to Langtang, Nepal’s spectacular Valley of Glaciers. Just a day's drive from Kathmandu, this resilient and deeply spiritual region offers an unforgettable journey through dense rhododendron forests, ancient Tamang settlements, and sweeping alpine valleys dominated by the hanging icefalls of Langtang Lirung (7,227m). If this film inspired you to experience the raw beauty of the Himalayas, here are two authentic ways to trek the region: 🎒 THE SHORT ITINERARY: CLASSIC LANGTANG VALLEY TREK (8 DAYS) Day 1: Kathmandu to Syabrubesi | Scenic overland journey winding through lush mid-hill terraced gorges. Day 2: Syabrubesi to Lama Hotel | Ascend through dense bamboo and rhododendron forests alongside the roaring Langtang Khola. Day 3: Lama Hotel to Langtang Village | Break the treeline into glacial valleys; witness the resilience of the rebuilt Langtang Village. Day 4: Langtang Village to Kyanjin Gompa | A short hike into the high alpine pastures, arriving at the iconic monastery beneath the ice walls. Day 5: Kyanjin Ri or Tserko Ri | Acclimatization hike to a 4,700m+ viewpoint for breathtaking 360-degree panoramas. Days 6-7: Kyanjin Gompa to Syabrubesi | Retrace the route downhill through Lama Hotel, enjoying the changing forest perspectives. Day 8: Syabrubesi to Kathmandu | Return drive to the capital. ⛺ THE LONG EXPEDITION: LANGTANG & SACRED GOSAINKUNDA LAKES (14 DAYS) Days 1-5: Kathmandu to Kyanjin Gompa | Follow the classic Langtang Valley route to acclimatize and explore the glacial amphitheater. Days 6-7: Kyanjin Gompa to Thulo Syabru | Descend the valley and divert onto the high ridgeline trails leading toward the sacred lake region. Days 8-9: Thulo Syabru to Gosainkunda | Climb steeply through alpine scrub to reach the pristine, turquoise holy lakes at 4,380m. Day 10: Cross Laurebina Pass (4,610m) | Conquer the rugged high pass, leaving the Langtang basin behind and entering the Helambu region. Days 11-13: Helambu Circuit Descent | Trek through rich Hyolmo cultural villages like Tarke Gyang and Sermanthang. Day 14: Melamchi Pul to Kathmandu | Final short hike and overland drive back to the city. REQUIRED TRAVEL PERMITS To trek the Langtang Valley, foreign nationals must obtain two mandatory documents: the Langtang National Park Entry Permit and a TIMS (Trekkers' Information Management System) Card. The Langtang National Park Entry Permit costs NPR 3,000 (approximately USD 23–26). Additionally, foreign trekkers are required to carry a TIMS Card, which costs NPR 2,000 for independent travelers or NPR 1,000 per person if trekking with an organized group. Foreign trekkers must hire a licensed guide through a registered trekking agency to trek in this region. To process your permits at the Nepal Tourism Board or directly through your trekking agency, you will need to present your original passport, a valid Nepal tourist visa, and two passport-sized photographs. Always carry your original physical permits with you, as officials will ask to see them at various checkpoints along the trail.
