Prone extension should be a non-negotiable in schools (when medically appropriate)… and here’s why 👇
Kids today are being asked to sit, focus, write, and regulate their emotions for HOURS, without having the foundational strength to do it.
👉 Prone extension (aka “superman”) is one of the most powerful positions for building that foundation.
This position is activating:
✨ Postural muscles (hello core + back strength)
✨ The vestibular system (balance + muscle tone)
✨ The visual system (lifting the head supports eye teaming + tracking)
✨ Nervous system regulation (calming + organizing input)
💡 Kids who struggle with prone extension often struggle with:
• Sitting upright at their desk
• Slouching or leaning on everything
• Attention + endurance
• Reading and writing tasks
• Coordination and body awareness
👉 You can’t expect higher-level learning if the foundation isn’t there.
Prone extension helps integrate primitive reflexes (like TLR), supports posture, and builds the strength needed for fine motor + academic tasks.
✔️ Try: “Superman holds” for 10–20 seconds
✔️ Repeat 2–3 times
✔️ Make it fun (fly to the moon, roll balls back and forth balance toys on their back, etc.)
This is the kind of movement kids are missing and it matters more than we think.
