I saw The Odyssey and Spider-Man: Brand New Day 8 times across 4 Orlando
theaters, in 8 different formats — IMAX dual laser, IMAX xenon, Dolby Cinema, 70mm film, 4DX, 3D 4DX, RPX, and a standard screen. Here's which format is actually worth paying for, and which one I'd tell you to skip.

Short version: if you saw it standard, Dolby is the upgrade worth paying
for. If you already saw it in Dolby, IMAX opens Thursday and Spider-Man was shot with an expanded 1.90:1 ratio for it. And 4DX — the one format I'd warn a first-timer away from — is actually a good time on a rewatch, for exactly that reason.
To be clear: I love IMAX. IMAX dual laser at Altamonte Springs was my single best screening of The Odyssey, better than 70mm and better than Dolby. This isn't a video about IMAX being bad. It's a video about which screen is worth your money for which movie.
Also covered: why the BIGGEST screen in Central Florida isn't the best one, why "70mm" and "IMAX 70mm" are not the same format, how to check whether your local IMAX is laser or xenon before you pay, and why The Odyssey's IMAX 70mm run just got extended to September 16.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day set the biggest opening weekend in box office history — $360 million domestic, passing Avengers: Endgame.
