Darktide is deeper than it looks. On the surface, it's a co-op shooter in the vein of Left 4 Dead - but the longer you play, the more you realise the game is asking something different of you. Not bigger numbers. Not artificial difficulty. Just a genuine invitation to get better, alongside other people, in a way that feels organic rather than forced.
In this video, I talk about coming back to Darktide after years away, relearning it from scratch, and rediscovering why it's stayed with me. I reflect on the difference between games that hold your hand and games that trust you to rise to the challenge, how build variety and skill trees can completely change how a class feels, and why playing with friends and strangers alike creates a kind of connection that competitive games rarely manage.
I also touch on the quiet things - the atmosphere, the physicality of combat, the social bridge that co-op games become as we get older, and the strange comfort of a game that demands more of you rather than less.
If you enjoy calm, honest reflections on gaming and adulthood, consider subscribing and joining the conversation. I'd love to hear which co-op games have meant something to you over the years.
