When a monster that should never have crossed the wards breaks into a forest lesson, the youngest mage in the class is the one who stands his ground. "Behind Me" is an original cinematic fantasy song about Eren, a twelve-year-old apprentice everyone overlooked, who finds a power he can't control at the worst possible moment, and the friends who come back for him. Fear, courage, friendship, and one unanswered question at the end. 🎵 Style: cinematic fantasy folk, boy lead vocal, children's choir, full orchestra 🎨 Visuals: original fantasy artwork, animated ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ LYRICS ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ BEHIND ME [Verse 1 — Boy, quiet] They paired us up beside the gate, Then looked beyond my raised-up hand. I pulled my borrowed cloak in close And drew my circles in the sand. “Twelve,” I heard somebody say, Then footsteps moving down the trail. I kept my little flame alive And hid it underneath my sleeve. We came to wake the lantern stones, To show the spells we’d learned that spring. Then every bird above us fled— We hadn’t heard a single thing. [Adult Female Mage — hushed] “A Crownless Harth… That beast belongs beyond the northern wards.” [Verse 2 — Boy] Six heavy footfalls shook the roots, White antlers scraped the branches bare. Our teacher’s shield lit up the wood, Then broke like glass against the air. The warrior met it by the stream; His sword rang out, his boots slid back. I saw the girl beside me fall— I turned before I saw its claws. It threw me hard against an oak, My left arm hanging at my side. She reached for me beneath the roots. There wasn’t anywhere to hide. [Pre-Chorus — Boy, building] I tried the little shield we’d learned, Three words I barely breathed. But something answered through the pain And brought me to my knees. It climbed my arm like winter light, Too much for me to hold— I stood between her and its teeth And heard myself say— [Chorus — Boy lead] Behind me! Keep your head down, take my hand! I don’t know what’s waking in me, But I’m trying to make it stand. Behind me! Though my knees are giving way, I can hear you through the thunder— Keep on calling out my name! [Children’s Chorus] Eren, we’re here! We haven’t gone! We see your light— Keep holding on! [Verse 3 — Boy, urgent] The silver spilled beyond my hands, It dragged the stones out of the ground. I meant to build a wall for her— It hurled the creature backward, bound. Its antlers tore the shining threads. The breaking burned behind my eyes. I couldn’t stop, I couldn’t breathe; The trees were bending on both sides. [Adult Female Mage — astonished] “He’s weaving spells together— I thought that art was lost.” [Adult Male Warrior — commanding] “Children, free her! Stay together! I’ll keep its head turned—go!” [Boy] I heard the ones who’d walked ahead Come running back into the storm. Small hands reached through the flying leaves; Their little spells began to form. [Chorus — Boy lead, stronger] Behind me! Keep your head down, take my hand! I don’t know what’s waking in me, But I’m trying to make it stand. Behind me! There’s a path beside the stream! Get her clear and keep on moving— Don’t let go because of me! [Children’s Chorus] Eren, we’re here! We haven’t gone! Take what we have— Keep holding on! [Bridge — Boy, fragile; instruments fall away] “I can’t hold it…” [Children — softly] “Then let us help.” [Boy] A spark of gold, a thread of green, A shaking ribbon, pale and small. The spells we’d practiced on our own Were finding places in the wall. I felt their breathing next to mine, The wild light settled into line. I turned my palm toward the beast— For once, the power answered me. [Adult Female Mage] “Now! Push it toward the boundary!” [Final Chorus — Boy and children, full orchestra] Beside me! Put your light against my own! There’s a road beyond the clearing, We can get each other home! Beside me! Let it hear us through the rain! Every little spell we carried Has a place against its weight! [Boy] The warrior drove it past the stones, Our teacher sealed the broken ground. It vanished through the silver mist— We held until there was no sound. [Children’s Chorus] We’re still here! We haven’t gone! Eren, lean on us— We’ll bring you home! [Outro — Boy, quiet] They wrapped my arm beside the gate, Someone laid their cloak on mine. Our teacher called us one by one; Each voice answered her in time. The girl sat close and held my sleeve. Nobody asked me to move away. I watched them lock the forest gate And heard our teacher softly say— [Adult Female Mage — spoken] “Its tracks began inside the wards.” [Boy — almost whispered] Then who had let it stay? ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ Who let it stay?
