Noa is a conservation policy specialist, researcher, and University of Cambridge MPhil Conservation Leadership alumna (2016-2017 cohort) who recently completed her PhD at Kiel University, focusing on EU fisheries policy in the Baltic Sea through a communications and lobbying lens. Her background includes over a decade of work bridging science and policy in government and NGO settings, including policy officer roles at UNEP-WCMC and BirdLife International.
Her talk "Improving Marine Fisheries Management - Insights from Behavioural Economics and European Fisheries" will explore the question: Can behavioural Economics improve fisheries management?
Drawing from her newly published systematic review of 140 studies applying behavioural economics to marine fisheries contexts, Noa will highlight the most common behavioural mechanisms influencing fishers' choices, reveal gaps in ethical practice and reporting across the reviewed literature, and propose pathways for more effective integration of behavioural science into fisheries policy, practice and management. The Baltic Sea fisheries will be presented as a case study where ecosystem-based fisheries management can be strengthened.
