Released in arcades in 1994 by Midway, Revolution X is a light gun shooter featuring legendary rock band Aerosmith. It's 1996 and the New Order Nation (NON), led by Mistress Helga, has taken over the world and imposed strict rules for youth-no games, no music, no entertainment, no ciulture. And now they've captured Aerosmith, the greatest rock band of all time. Your task is to rescue the members of Aerosmith and destroy the NON. Music Is The Weapon. Violence Is The Reward! Your weapons are a machine gun with unlimited ammo and, in keeping with the music theme, instead of missiles or bombs you have CDs, which are quire effective. You can find several powerups to help you out-extra CDs, Lazerdiscs (laser discs) which are more powerful than CDs, Supergun (increased gun power for a few seconds), Shield (no damage for duration of item) and more. Many backgrounds, walls, etc. can be destroyed for items and points. There are also prisoners which, in 1990s Midway fashion, are all bikini-clad girls-free them for more bonus points. Enemies take on a variety of forms and constantly attack until killed. The game has a structure like "Terminator 2" before it (this game actually runs on the same hardware) in that players are guaranteed a minimum amount of game time (operator-adjustable) so while it's not invincibility you won't lose life during this time. There are 6 stages in the game-once you clear the first 2 stages you can choose the order to play stages 3-5 in. Once you rescue all 5 members of Aerosmith you advance to the final stage to face Helga and attempt to wipe out the NON at the site of a big Aerosmith concert. Succeed and you complete the game and, if you have all 5 wings earned through gameplay, you get a bonus stage where you get to party backstage with the band after the concert. In addition to the band members themselves, the game features 4 songs by Aerosmith written prior to the game's 1994 release. Midway also sold a soundtrack CD for the game and poster from the game's release until the end of 1995. Like in Midway's "Mortal Kombat", the band members and motion/voice actors were recorded and digitally incorporated into the game, giving all characters a realistic appearance. Fun Fact: The actress who played Helga and the female dancers/hostages, Kerri Hoskins, would go on to be the model and voice of Sonya in "Mortal Kombat 3", "Mortal Kombat 4" and a character model for "War Gods". There are 2 versions of the game, one for 2 players and one for 3 players. This is the 3-player version, very unusual for a light gun game. The game was released for the Super NES & Sega Genesis in 1994 by Acclaim Entertainment, then for the Sega Saturn & Sony PlayStation in 1996.
