The seventh edition of "Gaana Saraswati Mahotsav" (in memory of the legendary Padma Vibhushan Awardee Smt Kishor Ji Amonkar) saw Smt S Aishwarya & Kumari S Saundarya & their brilliant team of accompanying artists give a sensational display of their prowess in presenting the classic “Raghuvamsha”in Raga "Kathanakuthukalam" much to the delight of the music lovers of Pune.
One of the most popular compositions of Papanasam Sivan - (his mudra (patent) is Ramadasan) this composition was popularised by Bharat Ratna M.S.Subbulakshmi and her daughter Dr Radha Viswanathan. Many decades ago, when Smt M.S.Subbulakshmi and Smt Radha sang this song in front of Lord Dandayudapani in Palani, a peacock flew in and stayed on to fully listen to both of them sing in front of Lord Palani Murugan.
The credit for this video recording goes to Sri Raghunandan Ji Panshikar who is truly the backbone of this wonderful festival.
S Aishwarya & S Saundarya are one of the most popular Carnatic musicians in Carnatic Music from the younger generation. Both of them are the Great Grand Daughters of Bharat Ratna M.S. Subbulakshmi & the Grand Daughters of Dr Radha Viswanathan and indeed the torch bearers of the precious MSS legacy.
Aishwarya began her first lessons directly from MS Amma and Radha
Viswanathan when she was hardly 4 years old on Vijayadashami Day.
The huge repertoire of songs which was part of the MS Bani, was painstakingly taught to Aishwarya by her Grandmother Dr Radha for a period of almost 20 years.
Aishwarya has also been learning from Karnataka Kalashree Vidushi Smt Jambu Kannan for the last 17 years. She is a proficient Veena player too training in the reputed Karaikudi style from Sri A Shankar Raman and Smt B Nagalakshmi.
Aishwarya has won various awards from many organisations most notably
being designated as the Ambassador of Classical Arts by the Connecticut State Assembly in 2016. She was named as the rising star of Carnatic Music by the AMN Global Group in March 2017. She has also won the Vocational Excellence Award from the Rotary Club of India and the Young Achiever Award from the A3 Foundation – Chandigarh in the year 2016.
S. Saundarya has been learning under the guidance of Sangitha Kala Acharya Smt Neela Ramgopal for 5 years. She is also training on the violin under the tutelage of Smt Anuthama Murali and Sri Vishwajith Mattur. Saundarya is an upcoming dancer too training under the Vazhuvoor Bani from Smt Sumitra Nitin.
Both the sisters Aishwarya & Saundarya also learn Hindustani Music under Pandit Nagaraj Rao Havaldar and Sri Omkarnath Havaldar.
In Oct 2017 both the sisters Aishwarya & Saundarya were invited by the Indian Prime Minister Sri Narendra Modi to sing at his residence wherein they sang the composition “Maithreem Bhajatha” of Mahaperiaval of Kanchi which was composed for World Peace and sung at the United Nations in 1966 by Smt M S Subbulakshmi & Smt Radha Viswanathan.
