Why do we keep wanting more?
More money. More possessions. More status. More followers. More experiences. More ways to become someone worth being.
In his 1976 book *To Have or To Be?*, German-American psychologist and philosopher Erich Fromm explored a simple but unsettling distinction: are we living primarily through what we have, or through what we are?
This video explores Fromm's ideas through the problems of modern life — consumerism, identity, social comparison, relationships, technology, artificial intelligence, and the pressure to constantly improve ourselves.
Fromm's question becomes even more relevant in a postmodern world, where many traditional identities have weakened and we are increasingly expected to construct and display our own identity.
What happens when the things we own become part of who we believe we are?
And when everything can be replaced, upgraded, displayed, or accumulated...
what remains?
This is not simply a video about consumerism. It is a reflection on identity, meaning, human behavior, and what it means to actually live.
Perhaps the question is not:
"What do I own?"
But:
"Who am I becoming?"
There was more.
