What truly makes a child “your own” — blood, love, upbringing, or responsibility? In this video, I explore adoption from three deep perspectives: religion, psychology, and philosophy. We look at how Islam, Christianity, Judaism, and Hindu traditions understand adoption, family, identity, lineage, and inheritance — and how these ideas differ from one another. But the discussion goes beyond religion. What happens psychologically when a child grows up knowing they were adopted? Why do some adopted children want to find their biological parents even when they deeply love their adoptive family? Can attachment become stronger than blood? And what happens when parents themselves struggle with the idea of “our own child”? The philosophical question is perhaps the most uncomfortable: Do we really want children because we want to love another human being — or because we want our DNA, name, and bloodline to continue after us? If a child does not carry your genes but carries your values, kindness, memories, and character into the next generation, is that child really any less a part of your legacy? This video is not meant to judge adoption, biological parenthood, or any religion.
