Using the Altered Scale Is WAY Easier Than You Think

Get the free Altered Scale: The Easy Way In PDF: 👉 https://go.thesound.kitchen/altered-s... ⸻ The altered scale is one of those things that can sound amazing when other people use it, but feel awkward and almost impossible to turn into a natural melody when you try it yourself. In this video, I’ll show you a different way into the sound. Instead of treating the altered scale as a completely unfamiliar collection of notes, we’ll start with a melodic shape your ears already understand in a minor key, get that sound really clear, then bring the same idea into a major 2-5-1 where it creates that rich altered colour. We’ll start with just two notes, gradually expand to a five-note shape, and then apply the whole process to Autumn Leaves. The goal is to stop thinking of the altered scale as something you have to calculate, and start hearing it as a sound you can actually control and use melodically. ⸻ Download the free PDF: 👉 https://go.thesound.kitchen/altered-s... The PDF walks through the whole practice process step by step, including the altered scales, two-note and five-note shapes, minor and major 2-5-1 exercises, the Autumn Leaves workout, and notation in concert pitch plus versions for Bb, Eb, F and bass clef instruments. ⸻ If you want to keep exploring colourful sounds and altered harmony in jazz, check this video out next: 🎥    • You Already Know This Chord Substitution (...   ⸻ 00:00 Intro 01:09 Finding the altered sound in G minor 05:12 Practicing the sound in a minor key 08:38 Taking it to B flat major 12:04 Applying it to Autumn Leaves 15:15 Wrapping up ⸻ If you try this exercise in your own practice, let me know in the comments how you get on.
