Welcome to EPISODE 25 of our complete CATIA Training Course Exercises! A huge thank you to everyone supporting the channel!
Today, we are tackling a major mechanical engineering project: a Stepped Shaft with multiple Keyways. This is a standard part you will find in gearboxes, motors, and transmissions.
💡 The Pro CAD Skills in this video:
How do you sketch a flat keyway on a round cylinder? Beginners struggle with this, but today you will learn the industry-standard method! We will use the Extremum command inside our Geometrical Set to find the exact top of our cylindrical faces. Then, we will create perfect Tangent Planes to sketch and mill out our keyways!
CATIA commands used in this exercise:
• Shaft (to instantly revolve the stepped cylindrical base)
• Extremum & Plane (to create tangent reference surfaces on round bodies)
• Pocket (to mill out the mechanical keyway slots)
👇 Question for the community: Before watching this, how did you create keyways on a shaft? Did you know about the 'Extremum' tool, or did you just guess the plane offset distance using math? Let's discuss our CAD workflows below!
