My Royal Enfield Himalayan 411 has been sitting unused for almost 6 months because of a charging-related issue. The battery was completely discharged, and I wasn't sure whether the motorcycle would start again without replacing the battery.
Instead of immediately replacing it, I decided to try a 12V Intelligent Pulse Charger and see whether I could bring the discharged battery back to life.
In this video, I charge the Himalayan's battery, check the battery condition, try starting the motorcycle and then take it out for a ride to investigate whether the original charging problem is still present.
The charger was particularly useful for a motorcycle that had been sitting unused for several months. If you have a bike, car or other 12V vehicle that has been parked for a long time and the battery has become discharged, a suitable intelligent battery charger can be a useful option to consider before immediately replacing the battery — although the battery's actual condition needs to be checked, as a deeply discharged or damaged battery may not recover.
After getting the Himalayan running, I take it out on the road to see what happens.
Interestingly, the charging issue doesn't appear during this ride. However, the ride reveals a couple of other problems.
I notice that the speedometer is shaking and vibrating, which appears to be caused by worn-out rubber grommets. I also find that the motorcycle will need a coneset replacement.
So, has the Himalayan's charging problem actually been fixed? Not necessarily. The problem hasn't appeared during this ride, but I'll need to continue monitoring the motorcycle before I can say that the issue is permanently resolved.
