The Artsy-Fartsy Joy Club, Session 6: Matchbox Diorama - Your Happy Place Well, hello! I’m Alex and today I’ve got a new Artsy-Fartsy Joy Club session for ya! We’re gonna make a mini diorama today - small enough to fit in a matchbox. Our theme is childhood loves. The idea is to have this tiny diorama that reminds you of your happy place. You can use a memory like hearing the ice cream truck come down your street. Or maybe you wanna take a page from your favorite fairy tale as inspiration. Or maybe you want it to be more abstract and just a combination of your favorite childhood foods, for example. Here are the links to the fun paper theater videos I mentioned: - - The Dragon And The Bear:    • Alex Mitchell VIDEO: The Dragon And The Bear   - - Paper Theater Magic:    • Alex Mitchell VIDEO: Paper Theater Magic   Prompt for the day: As you’re coming up with your little scene for your diorama, think in designing 3 layers: foreground, middle ground, and background. • Cut a background to fit in your box: Using white craft paper, trace around your box to get the size of your background. Next, cut it out. • Cut bits you can use in the foreground and middle ground: Using white craft paper, cut a few small bits out. Cut the paper bigger than you’ll need it. Think about how you’ll be placing these bits in front of your background. • Draw your background and bits: Using your pencil, draw on the bits that make up your foreground, middle ground, and background. Keep in mind that the smaller bits will cover parts of your background. • Color in & cut out your background and bits: Using your coloring tools, color all your paper bits. Next, cut out your smaller bits and leave enough paper to fold a little flap for securing them in place. • Secure your background and bits to make your diorama: Using double-stick tape, secure your background to the back of your box. And then add tiny slivers of tape to the flaps of your smaller bits to secure them in place. Materials needed: • A large matchbox or tiny box • Your favorite doodling tools - markers, highlighters, color pencils, crayons, etc. • Pencil • Scissors • Double-stick tape • A sheet of white craft paper • Optional: Black permanent pen Allow for 20 minutes of play time Just jump in and mess around with your art supplies as you work alongside me.
