In this video, I examine the official *NITI Aayog–Ministry of Petroleum Roadmap for Ethanol Blending in India* and the detailed recommendations submitted by **SIAM**. The report clearly records SIAM’s warning that **E10 petrol should continue to remain available as a protection-grade fuel even after the introduction of E20**. A large number of existing vehicles—especially vehicles designed and material-compatible only up to E10—were not originally engineered, calibrated or certified for regular use with E20. SIAM warned that discontinuing E10 could expose older vehicles to possible **rubber and plastic material degradation, fuel seepage or leakage, reduced mileage, poor drivability and performance-related problems**. Retrofitting millions of existing vehicles was also described as a practically difficult and massive exercise. The roadmap itself recognised the need for E10 as a protection fuel during the transition, but India eventually moved towards E20 without continuing a widely available parallel E10 option for owners of older vehicles. In this video, I explain: Why SIAM called E10 availability a “must” for existing vehicles, what the official E20 tests revealed about elastomers and plastic components, how much mileage loss was estimated, why SIAM proposed a slower transition, and whether owners of vehicles manufactured before the E20 transition were given enough protection and fuel choice.
