Member of Des Moines Bomb Squad detonates suspicious device at Waveland Golf Course

A Des Moines golf course was evacuated Thursday afternoon after a suspicious device was found on the course. KCCI received multiple tips shortly after 1 p.m. Thursday from people at Waveland Golf Course, saying they had been told to leave the grounds. Des Moines police confirmed to KCCI that a golfer reported what they thought was a pipe bomb to Waveland staff just before noon, which spurred the evacuation. A KCCI crew captured the moment a member of the Des Moines Police Department Bomb Squad approached the device and appeared to destroy it. Sgt. Paul Parizek with the Des Moines Police Department confirmed that it was a "live device."
