Game: Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave Song: Obelisk Chamber (Cai)/Fox Obelisk Thought we were done after the piano collection, but we can't stay away from the Fortune's Weave soundtrack! The Obelisk Chamber theme is a simple, melancholic arrangement of the Fortune's Weave main theme that does some brilliant work giving insight into each of the main characters just by swapping the lead instrument that plays over a backing classical guitar, so we were inspired to cover every version and bring in a different local collaborator from the Colorado VGM scene to lend their talents to each version. Technically for this one we don't have an external collaborator, but Nicole is one of the finest piccolo players I know so it just made sense for her to do it. (and she never actually reads the descriptions I write for our videos so I can brag about her). Cai's main instrument through the OST seems to be a piccolo, but primarily played in its lower octave instead of the traditional ultra-high range. This is interesting both because it lends a breathier, more whistling sound and because it's the easier set of notes to play on the instrument. Both of these elements seem to fit Cai's youthful naivete and the untapped potential he possesses, as here a difficult instrument is being played in a slightly more amateur and approachable fashion while still carrying a distinctive sound. In all versions I'm playing the same backing as a duet on a new classical guitar that we won at an auction recently. It's imported from Spain and has a very rich and soothing sound, which seemed ideal for this largely Spanish-inspired OST. All versions are now out on streaming, and I hope you're looking forward to more music videos in the coming days. ~ Xander Jinjo (Tortoiseshell Cat) is a precious sweetheart baby. ~ Nicole Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave soundtrack composed by Takeru Kanazaki, Rei Kondoh, and Hiroki Morishita.
