What does a climate crisis sound like from the streets of Bengaluru? In the first track of the Climate Emergency Mixtape, Bengaluru-based artist Kali brings heat, water shortages, disappearing green cover, shrinking lakes, concrete expansion and the question of accountability into one sharp, playful and unapologetic rap. Neer Kodu/Beer Kodu carries disappointment, humour and satire in equal measure, turning everyday climate realities into something you can feel, question and sit with. It is Kali’s take on a city changing around him, and on what happens when the climate crisis is no longer something we can afford to debate from a distance. The Climate Emergency Mixtape is a multilingual rap album featuring six independent artists from across India, using music to bring frontline experiences of climate change into culturally rooted, personal and emotionally resonant stories.
