HIST 2368 Module 1 Mapping Part 1

What can maps reveal about Africa that stereotypes often obscure? Mapping Africa uses different forms of cartography to explore the continent’s extraordinary diversity. Through political, historical, linguistic, climate, vegetation, and other thematic maps, the video examines how Africa changes depending on what we choose to map and how we choose to see it. Rather than treating Africa as a single, uniform place, these maps reveal multiple environments, histories, languages, political formations, and ways of life. The video challenges representations that collapse this complexity into familiar stereotypes and asks us to see the continent in its diversity, scale, and specificity.
